Katnook Estate

Nestled in the heart of Coonawarra, just 6 kilometres north of the township of Penola on the Riddoch Highway, a warm welcome awaits you at Katnook Estate’s historic cellar door. Visitors to Katnook Estate can savour the history of the region in the beautifully renovated cellar door, which features local stone and timbers.  At the entrance to the Cellar Door, a deep pit shows visitors the famous “terra rossa” soil profile – promoting the link between soil and wine quality.

Winemaker, Wayne Stehbens, has been at Katnook’s winemaking helm since 1979, making him one of Australia’s longest serving winemakers. Wayne explains: “Winemaking is an exciting challenge here from year to year. Nothing is static. Seasons, knowledge, equipment, oak. Even our markets – they’re forever evolving.”

Within the cellar door, a lounge area boasts a peaceful outlook across the vineyards, which features on all Katnook Estate labels. Complimentary coffee is served daily. The former stables have also been restored and can be booked for conferences or private functions.
