Mitchell Wines

Mitchell Winery was established in 1975 by Jane and Andrew Mitchell. They are located in the western hills of the Clare Valley region in South Australia. Imposing century-old cast iron gates are the entrance to the Mitchell family home and winery, which is built around an old sandstone apple store. Mitchell is classified in Australian terms as a small winery, however up to 500 tonnes of grapes are crushed and processed each year in the well-equipped modern winery facility.

Winemaker, Andrew Mitchell, has long considered organic farmed, dry-grown vineyards to have better developed characteristics in the final wine. He has always sought to make wines of intensity, of varietal fruit flavours and definitive regional character. Some of the most popular wines are the Watervale Riesling and Peppertree Vineyard Shiraz. However, the range of Mitchell Wines receives multiple accolades every year, including a consistent 5 star rating in James Halliday’s Wine Companion.

At the Mitchell Wines cellar door, the welcome is genuine. The Mitchell Wines cellar door staff share the Mitchell family’s passion for their wines, the beautiful rural region of Sevenhill and the Clare Valley in South Australia.
