Description
Located in the Coonawarra region of South Australia, Koonara is owned by Dru Reschke. The property has been in his family since 1906, but it wasn’t until 1988 that the first vines were planted. Every year since 1991, 30 cases of Koonara have been made for family and friends. Finally in 1999, they decided to make their wine available to the public, so they made a very limited number of cases, which were held back to give the wines a chance to mature in the bottle.
The Coonawarra region is known for its cool climate wines, especially the reds. 100% of Koonara red wines are in oak barrels, which gives them the soft vanilla flavours. Tasting notes on all Koonara Coonawarra wines are available on their website.
Come and visit the picturesque cellar door in the heart of Penola, where you will be greeted by Buster, the little Jack Russell/Fox Terrier dog. Koonara has a cellar door with a difference and, along with tasting their award winning wines, they offer a wide range of homewares, giftwares, local produce and art exhibitions.
