d’Arenberg Winery

Price: Ranging from $11 to $200 per bottle

d’Arenberg is located in the famous South Australian wine region of McLaren Vale.  Their winemaking processes of the past have been maintained, capturing the unique small-batch character of the wines and the true flavour of the McLaren Vale region, including utilising the age-old technique of foot-treading.

Chester Osborn, chief winemaker and fourth generation family member, is continuing the family’s winemaking tradition that spans over two centuries.  Chester and his winemaking team utilise the original 1920s cellars and the traditional winemaking processes to create the wines that proudly wear the red stripe label.  All wines, including the whites, are basket pressed and the reds are traditionally fermented in open, wax-lined concrete fermenters. Chester’s winemaking philosophy is to produce wines that have great fragrance and fruit character with palate texture and length, balanced by fine natural acidity and tannins.  d’Arenberg’s art of being different extends to include a range of fortified and dessert wines as well.

The d’Arenberg cellar door is housed in the restored 19th century homestead on a picturesque hilltop, with views over McLaren Vale, the Willunga Hills and the Gulf St Vincent. Taste the wine, talk with their knowledgeable staff and hear about a racehorse named Footbolt, money spiders, dead arms, laughing magpies, lucky lizards and more.

Connoisseur Club Members are welcome for 10% off cellar door purchases.
