Nyala African Restaurant

Serving African cuisine in Fitzroy for 16 years, Nyala African Restaurant is cosy with a strongly African themed deco. The friendly staff complements the food and atmosphere.

Nyala offers food and drink from all across the African continent, though there is an emphasis on Ethiopian cuisine. Some dishes on the menu include the Nyala Special: a traditional Ethiopian stew, rich with flavour containing lean boneless beef, finely chopped fresh ginger, garlic and homemade peri per (chilli) with other spices to taste, served with futari, a mix of vegetables and traditionally served with injera. Or try the Abeba Gomen: this exotic Ethiopian name for ‘cauliflower’ is only the beginning of rapturous eating. It is steamed, then soaked in egg batter, deep fried and served with spiced timatim sauce. Desserts include an East African favourite of banana, brown sugar, cream cheese and cinnamon, lightly baked. An Ethiopian coffee or mint tea should complete the experience.

Nyala are also available for functions, creating a menu of food and drink to match your occasion.
